Baseball: Afton drops to Forks

CHENANGO FORKS – Coming off a battle against Deposit-Hancock in the MAC title game, the Afton Crimson Knights had its hands full with adding an additional game against STAC opponent Chenango Forks. It was the final game before sectionals kick off early next week for Class D. Chenango Forks defeated Afton 15-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Afton scored its lone run in the top of the first inning as Braydon Baciuska, who reached on an error, scored on a passed ball. Afton was held to just three hits on the day from Ryan Wright, Justin Reeve, and Carter Burns, who all continue to hit the ball well.

It was a decent game throughout until Forks scored 10 runs in the fifth inning after taking a 5-1 lead in the second inning.

Ryan Wright, Carter Burns, and Levi Russell split time on the mound for the Crimson Knights, where Wright struck out six batters in three innings pitched.

Afton (13-3) earned the second seed in the Class D sectional tournament, where they will host seventh seed Schenevus, who they won against in early May, on Monday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. No admission will be charged until the finals on May 24.
