MARCELLUS – After winning the CSC division I, the Sherburne-Earlville softball team received the 10th seed in the Section III, Class B tournament. Being such a high seed meant they had to play on the road instead of their beloved home field. S-E got past the first round with a 6-0 shutout win against Onondaga-LaFayette, but had to face a tough two-seed Marcellus next. S-E fell 9-0 to the Mustangs, which ended an outstanding season. S-E finished with a strong 13-2 record and made a lot of great memories for its seniors and entire team as softball had returned to S-E this year. Many memorable milestones for senior Haleigh Fisher over her high school career with achieving 500 strikeouts this year and throwing no-hitters to pump up the S-E offense and win games.
This time against Marcellus, S-E was very limited and were held to just one hit throughout the game. The lone hit was from Emily Lawrence to lead-off the top of the seventh inning to break up a no-hitter. Reagan Krueger and Jeanine Chamberlain reached base on walks.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Marcellus scored four runs and extended its lead with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. All these runs were unearned for Fisher on the mound. Fisher allowed three hits, walked one batter, and struck out 12 in her final game.
Great season, S-E and congratulations and best of luck to all the seniors.
