NORWICH — The Turning Point of Chenango County, located at 24 East Main Street in Norwich, celebrated their two-year anniversary on Friday with a celebration and recognition of staff, board members, and community supporters.
The Turning Point of Chenango County is under the umbrella of Friends of Recovery Dedicated to Others (FOR-DO), which has two other Turning Point centers in Oneonta and Delhi. The organization aims to help individuals recover from addiction through advocacy, education, and peer support.
"It’s amazing that we’re here two years now, so I’m very pleased with the turnout and the community support. If it wasn’t for this community, we wouldn’t be here," said FOR-DO Executive Director Debra Berrios. "I want to thank everybody who came out today to be with us and acknowledge the hard work and the dedication [of] those who are here, that help us continue to fight the fight and help those impacted by addiction."
Recognized at the celebration were Health and Human Services Committee Members Jim McNeil, Jeffrey Blanchard, and Liz Warnack; the FOR-DO Board of Directors; Turning Point of Chenango County Program Manager Dana Nightingale; Turning Point staff members Jennifer Lovelace, Christie Bergamo, and Mary Banks; FOR-DO Director of Finance and Operations Ryan Alscheimer; and Oneonta Turning Point Program Manager Kyle Lafevre.
"I want to help as many people as I can here in Chenango County. I’m so glad that we’re now able to have all the programs that we have and the meetings that we have, and I’m so glad that we are picking up our numbers, and I hope it just gets bigger and bigger," said Nightingale.
The Turning Point of Chenango County offers recovery coaching from peer specialists, who serve as a touchpoint for those in recovery, help them identify goals, and keep them on track throughout recovery.
The center also offers mutual aid support group meetings, community outreach events, Narcan training, Alternative to Violence workshops, craft days, journaling groups, wellness workshops, movie nights, and other community events. A full calendar of upcoming events can be found on the Turning Point of Chenango County, FORDO Facebook page.
