NORWICH – After a hard loss to Hillcrest on Saturday, the two legion baseball teams squared off again in Norwich on Monday evening. Hillcrest got the best of two with a 20-1 victory in five innings.
Hillcrest scored seven runs in both the first and second innings, where they batted around the lineup twice. Norwich kept them quiet in the third inning, but couldn’t in the fourth and fifth, where they added six more runs. Norwich got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as Jackson Sastri stole home on a dropped third strike with the play to first. Norwich also had a chance to score in the second inning with runners on the corners with two outs, but couldn’t plate the runner at third.
Carmine Pastore and Kaden Downey had the two Norwich hits, where Downey also stole a base. Collin Reid, Mike Brunick, Joey Parker, and Kolbey Redenback split time on the mound, where each at least struck out one batter. Reid and Brunick struck out two batters each through one and a two-thirds inning pitched.
Norwich (0-2) heads into a two-game set with Endicott. The two will play in Endicott on Thursday at 6 p.m. before facing off in Norwich on Sunday at noon.
