Sam Bush to perform in Summer Concert Series

NORWICH — Bluegrass icon Sam Bush is scheduled to perform in the NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series this Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m. in Norwich's East Park.


According to the Chenango Blues Association, Bush is known as "an originator of the Progressive Newgrass movement" and for "incorporating long jams and rock and roll sensibility into bluegrass traditions."

Bush's style incorporates a variety of musical influences, from Ricky Skaggs to Bob Marley. Throughout his 50-year career, Skaggs has recorded and performed with Emmylou Harris, Garth Brooks, Lyle Lovett, and Bela Fleck; won several IBM Mandolin Player of the Year awards; earned a Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Music Association; and was nominated for 14 Grammy awards and won three of them.


Bush was also inducted into the IBMA Hall of Fame in 2020 for his work with New Grass Revival, as well as in 2023 for his solo career.


The Chenango Blues Association describes Bush as "the foundation upon which is built the explosively popular Bluegrass of today."
