The 2024 S-E Soccer kick-off tournament: Norwich girls defeat S-E, S-E boys drop to V-VS

SHERBURNE – The opening rounds of the Sherburne-Earlville soccer kick-off tournament were held Thursday afternoon at the Granville Hill Road grass fields. The S-E stadium is under construction with the installation of artificial turf and a new track and could see completion after the fall season, leaving the soccer teams using Granville fields for the 2024 home games.
This year’s tournament features Norwich, Sherburne-Earlville, and Oxford for the girls with being short a team this year while the boys are loaded with S-E, Oxford, Unadilla Valley/GMU, and Vernon-Verona Sherill.
Norwich girls, coming off their home opener against Waverly, faced Sherburne-Earlville while the Sherburne-Earlville boys hosted V-VS for their season opener.
The tournament resumes on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
Girls’ Soccer:
Norwich 8 - S-E 0
Norwich’s Bella Dilorio, who scored the lone goal in Tuesday’s loss to Waverly, and Josey Ryan both had hat tricks, three goals, while Brynley Ryan scored two goals in the win. Maya Adolff had four assists as Cally Richardson, Dilorio, and Mya Barnes each contributed with one assist. Daphney Frank made four saves in goal.
Norwich plays Oxford today (Friday) at 5 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer:
V-VS 7 - S-E 0
The newly Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves boys’ soccer team received three corner kicks in the loss to V-VS, where JJ Fischer and Kerrigan Buschor split time in net. Fischer had seven saves while Buschor made three saves.
S-E should play on Saturday in the tournament’s consolation game as Oxford takes on UV/GMU today (Friday) at 5 p.m.
