S-E Soccer Tournament: Norwich girls win; Oxford boys and girls take second

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville kickoff soccer tournament wrapped up on Friday and Saturday at the Granville Hill Road soccer fields. The second round was underway on Friday before rainy weather conditions made Saturday’s consolation games and championship very wet and muddy on Saturday.
With only three teams representing the girls’ tournament, Norwich defeated both S-E and Oxford to win the tournament with Oxford in second place. Vernon-Verona Sherrill defeated Oxford in the boys’ championship game as Sherburne-Earlville defeated UV/GMU in the consolation to take third place.

Bella Dilorio scored the lone goal off an assist from Josey Ryan. Dilorio wins tournament MVP as Maya Adoff, Daphney Frank, and Josey Ryan earn all-tournament.
Boys:
Oxford 4 - UV/GMU 2
Oxford’s Gordon Smith scored four goals in the first half from two assists by Paxton LaMonica and one from Donovan Rickard. UV/GMU’s Jacob Prentice and Noah Pain both scored for the Storm.

Emily Holbert kicked off the scoring off a penalty kick for Oxford as Colette Kappauf scored two goals and Kayla Knapp netted one. Taegan Manwarren had one assist in the win. Oxford’s Jayne Fleury, Knapp, Manwarren, and Holbert earn all-tournament with Sherburne-Earlville’s Lydia Larchar, Claire Barth, and goalkeeper Allesandra Ingerto.

S-E’s William Leinbach scored the lone goal within a minute of the first half on a rebound after Robert Schaefer’s shot was saved by UV/GMU’s Isaiah Salimbangon. Salimbangon made eight saves in the loss while S-E’s JJ Fischer had four impressive saves in the win. Fischer and Jamie O’Connor, along with UV/GMU’s Latham Retz and Wyatt Meade all received all-tournament honors.

After a scoreless first half, Vernon-Verona Sherrill nets two goals to win the tournament championship game. Oxford’s Gordon Smith, Ben Sheridan, and Sam Hendricks earn all-tournament.
