GREENE – The Greene boys’ soccer tournament was underway on Thursday as the Unadilla Valley/GMU Storm played Chenango Forks in the first round. After Windsor could not attend this year’s tournament, the tournament is now being played “round robin” style, where each team will play each other once throughout the weekend. UV/GMU fell 9-0 to the STAC powerhouse.
The Storm saw many good touches, but were limited possession by a strong Blue Devils defense. UV/GMU played a better second half with being able to get a shot on goal from Zayne Dibbell with help from Wyatt Meade and Latham Retz. The Storm also received a corner kick in the final three minutes of play as Braden Golliver got the ball on a pass from Dibbell and was forced out of bounds by a Forks defender.
While the Storm improved in the second half, they could not capitalize.
Dibbell started in the goal for UV/GMU and made six saves while Brody Cattanach played the second half, making nine saves against a fiery Forks team.
UV/GMU (0-4) will face Greene this afternoon (Friday) at 4:30 p.m. Greene will then play Chenango Forks on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to conclude the tournament.
