NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley/GMU Storm boys’ soccer team hosted Unatego/Franklin for a MAC league contest on Monday. Both teams had plenty of opportunities and battled it out. The Spartan Devils scored the game’s lone goal in the first half to take the 1-0 shutout victory.
Unatego/Franklin’s goal came within the first 20 minutes of play as Isaiah Salimbangon played tough in net for the Storm and nearly saved this shot, but the ball slipped past on the right side. Otherwise, Salimbangon was tremendous from then on, even making a big stop on a penalty kick, and saving over 10 shots.
The Storm earned four corner kicks with great chances of tying the game up, especially when Preston York earned a penalty kick, but his shot went wide right. Haywood Edwards’ ball was so close to going in, but the goalkeeper had a hand on it to prevent the tie. Wyatt Meade and Jacob Prentice had great breakaways, but were defended heavily near the goal following their movement.
UV/GMU (0-5) heads to Schenevus on Friday at 8 p.m.
