Field Hockey: Greene holds on vs A/H

GREENE – It was a special night for the Greene Trojans field hockey team as they hosted Afton/Harpursville for the annual Nancy Barrows/Nancy Bromley honorary game. Greene held on to a 2-1 victory with Afton/Harpursville threatening late in the fourth quarter.

Greene took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a goal by Josie Dutcher off a pass from Claire Flanagan halfway through the first quarter.

The Greene Field Hockey program honored and recognized both Nancy Barrows and Nancy Bromley at halftime. The late Nancy Barrows, who was called “B”, led the 1997 Greene field hockey team to a state title and also coached the volleyball and softball teams while being a physical education teacher. On the softball team, she earned 400 wins.

But, it was Nancy Bromley, who started Greene’s first field hockey team in 1972. She coached the team from 1972 to 1996, finishing with three state titles and a record of 325-52-20. She was inducted into the Section IV hall of fame in 1997. Greene is thankful to have so many female leaders among its coaches and other supporting staff.
