Oxford Girls Soccer Tournament: Oxford girls win title over S-E; OV defeats A/H in consolation

OXFORD – The Oxford girls’ soccer tournament was underway on Friday and wrapped up on Saturday night and featured all local teams from the Chenango County area. The Oxford girls defeated both Afton/Harpursville and Sherburne-Earlville to win the tournament as Otselic Valley earned their first win of the season as they defeated Afton/Harpursville in the consolation game.
Friday’s Games:
S-E 3 - OV 2
It was a Section III out of class meeting between these two teams with OV residing in Class D and S-E in Class B. Both teams tied at one at halftime with goals by S-E’s Kadyn Babcock and one by OV’s Kassidie Cruikshank, whose shot went off a S-E defender and in to the net. S-E’s Claire Barth was successful on a penalty kick to give the Timberwolves a 2-1 advantage. Moments later, OV’s Skylar Graham found Kimi Blanco for the score. However, S-E went ahead and sealed the victory for good with a goal by Kayden Edwards. Sadie Davis and Barth picked up assists in the win.
OX 9- A/H 1
Taegan Manwarren and Colette Kappauf led the Blackhawks with two goals as Manwarren also had two assists. Jayne Fleury, Ahna Kappauf, Kayla Knapp, and Nora Thorne all scored one goal. Knapp, Christine Seiler, and Paige Rickard added assists. Afton/Harpursville’s Alyssa Spathelf scored the lone goal for the Crimson Knights in the loss.
