NEW BERLIN – It was a battle of firsts between the Unadilla Valley/GMU and Afton/Harpursville boys’ soccer teams on Tuesday evening. Both teams have played a rough schedule, falling in close games, so each team was looking for their first win of the season. UV/GMU, who played competitively against Greene to drop 1-0 in the previous game, came up big with a 7-4 victory over the young Crimson Knights.
The game was tied 1-1 at halftime before the Storm struck six goals in the second half as Afton/Harpursville added three goals.
Senior Haywood Edwards led the Storm with five of the seven goals on his 11 shots on goal with Denzel Peter and Wyatt Meade each scoring one goal. Meade, Peter, Noah Pain, Isaiah Salimbangon, and Preston York each picked up assists. Braden Golliver made six saves in the win.
