Edison overwhelms Trojans, 38-6
ELMIRA HEIGHTS – Thomas A. Edison dealt the final blow to Greene’s hope at salvaging a .500 season, overwhelming the Trojans’ gridders, 38-6 on Saturday afternoon.
Edison’s Andrew Slaven threw two touchdown passes to Paxton Hoover. Greg Golden, Reyes McAtee, and Zimear Young also scored on touchdown runs.
After a slow start in which the host team built a 6-0 lead, Edison scored five touchdowns over the middle two quarters.
While Greene did force three turnovers – including two fumble recoveries in the first half – it had two punts blocked, and did not record a first down in the game, according to unofficial statistics.
“We struggled terribly with dropping snaps and missing blocks,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We didn’t have enough time to throw the ball (when we did execute the snaps), and because of that, could not open up running lanes. They were able to overwhelm us a little bit with their pressure. Especially up the middle.”
Greene did avoid the shutout with a nifty piece of hustle, and timely playmaking.
Aidan Marcin executed a strip sack in the fourth quarter and ran the fumble back himself 32 yards for the touchdown.
Greene (2-5) wraps up its season next Friday against Moravia.
