NORWICH – On October 15, the Chenango County Board of Supervisors approved Local Law No. 4 to limit and control access on property controlled by the county.

The agriculture, buildings and grounds committee presented the proposal to the board.

The purpose of the law is to establish access, use and hours of closings for property owned and operated by Chenango County, specifically located within the City of Norwich.

“The reason for the local law is for continuity within the City of Norwich,” said City of Norwich Supervisor James McNeil.

He said although they have agreements with the city concerning the parks, the law allows the City of Norwich Police to enforce the legislation.

Any law enforcement agency with jurisdiction within the City of Norwich is authorized to enforce the provisions of this law and include the following penalties for anyone found trespassing:

A fine of not more than $250 or by imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both fine and imprisonment.
