NORWICH - The Norwich Police Department, in collaboration with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, announced the arrest of an Edmeston man following an investigation into narcotics trafficking in Norwich.
John Eric Williams, 59, faces charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, with one count of second-degree for alleged methamphetamine possession, a Class A-II felony. Two other counts are in the third degree for allegedly possessing fentanyl and crack cocaine, Class B felonies.
According to NPD police reports, law enforcement officials seized significant quantities of illegal drugs during the investigation, including 5.58 ounces of methamphetamine, 0.57 ounces of crack cocaine, and 0.92 ounces of fentanyl. In addition to the narcotics, officers confiscated an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency believed to be linked to narcotics sales.
“The officers did a great job, and I’m pleased these deadly substances are off our streets,” said Norwich Police Chief Reuben J. Roach in a statement.
Williams was arraigned in Chenango County Central Arraignment Court, where he was held without bail at the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings in City of Norwich Court.
Roach said the investigation stemmed from tips regarding narcotics distribution at a location in Norwich, leading to a coordinated law enforcement effort to curb the local drug trade.
