Greene boys drop home opener vs Newark Valley

GREENE – After starting off the 2024 season in the Lansing tournament, the Greene Trojans boys basketball team hosted Newark Valley for their home opener.

Greene fell 55-37 to start 0-3 on the season.

Both teams were off to a slow start, focusing on a strong defensive approach. However, Newark Valley began to capitalize on opportunities, while Greene displayed determination but struggled to convert. The Cardinals excelled at securing rebounds under Greene’s basket and intercepted several errant passes.

Greene also got into early foul trouble, where the Cardinals were consistent at the free-throw line. Greene started picking up the pace before the break and were down 30-15 at halftime.

Newark Valley continued to play steady offense, even laying down multiple three’s to build a comfortable lead. Greene played its best third quarter with a solid defense and able to get inside to score.
