CHENANGO COUNTY — Registration has opened for the 2nd annual Chenango Women's Leadership Conference on Tuesday, March 25 at the Canasawacta Country Club.
Hosted by the Chenango Foundation, a subdivision of Commerce Chenango, the conference aims to empower and connect women in Chenango County, and provide them with practical skills to improve and enhance their leadership skills.
Tickets are available now at CommerceChenango.com for an early bird discounted rate of $45 per person until February 28. After that, tickets will be $60 per person. Commerce Chenango has expanded the event this year to allow for a total of 225 attendees.
This year's keynote speaker is Barbara Schindler, COO of Golden Artist Colors. The event will also feature three panels, including Women in Wealth, Women in Health, and Women in Leadership.
"The day is going to consist of three different panels led by Chenango County women, and the topics are Women in Wealth, which is basically about how to protect your assets, how to grow your assets, how to protect yourself from something going wrong. We have a variety of people up there: we have a financial advisor, a lawyer, a CPA. That’s the angle we’re taking for Women in Wealth, is how to protect your wealth instead of how to just gain," explained Commerce Chenango Communications and Marketing Coordinator Sophia Root.
"There's a panel on Women in Health, which is everything from physical therapy to mental health," she continued. "Then we have a pretty robust panel, we have five panelists on it currently, for Women in Leadership. We have senior leaders from the manufacturing industry, the service industry, we’ve got a little bit of a variety there."
Panelists will be announced on the Chenango Women's Leadership Conference Facebook page in the near future. Root said they're working to make the panels more interactive, with a 15-minute discussion period planned after each panel for attendees to ask questions.
DCMO BOCES Enrichment Coordinator will also be giving her Inspiring Women presentation again this year, which was a fan favorite at last year's inaugural event.
Lunch will be provided for attendees, and the event will wrap up with a networking reception featuring a variety of organizations and businesses from the Chenango County area. Root said applications to table at the event will be available at CommerceChenango.com in the near future.
The Chenango Women's Leadership Conference is supported again this year by the Community Foundation of South Central New York Women's Fund, which has provided a $5,000 grant for the event.
Root said they already have approximately 50 people signed up, and they're glad to see the momentum continuing after last year's successful conference. She said they're working to make this year's event even better.
"It was a huge success. We weren’t expecting as many people; we had about 190 attendees, and we were not expecting that right out of the gate. So we were pretty excited, and the panels went well, and the audience was really responsive to them," said Root.
