Greene girls regroup with big win over Harpursville
HARPURSVILLE – After a hard loss to Sidney on Friday, the Greene Trojans girls basketball team quickly regrouped and defeated Harpursville with a big 57-20 victory. It’ll be a battle in the MAC girls standings throughout the rest of the season with Sidney and Unatego on their tail, but Greene has a strong group to keep steady and play every game one game at a time.
Greene’s defense made a statement from the very beginning, which gave them a comfortable lead that they ran with throughout the remainder of the contest. The Trojans scored 29 points in the first half and held the Hornets to just three free-throws and no field goals.
The Trojans offense just continued to stay consistent, even with Harpursville making adjustments in the third quarter. Greene then held the Hornets to five points in the final eight minutes.
Abby Yahner posted a double-double to lead the Trojans with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Claire Flanagan, Cali Knapp, and Mya Leggett-Carlin all finished with eight points. Flanagan hit two threes while Leggett-Carlin played a strong second half. Knapp’s eight points all came in the first half.
