NORWICH - The Winter Farmers' Market inaugural launch will be from 3 to 6 p.m., February 6, at the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus located at 20 Conkey Avenue.
The market will run every other Thursday, starting on February 6 and continuing on February 20, March 6 and 20, and April 3 and 17.
One of the contributing vendors will be Andrea Schmidt of the Schmidt Farm in Sherburne, where she and her husband Mark produce various maple products. Mark said he has been making maple syrup since his youth but in the last eight years, it has become an additional featured product on their dairy farm.
"I prefer selling our syrup retail because we get to talk with the customers and answer any questions they may have," said Schmidt. "We have found that winters can have slower sale times after the holidays and there aren't a lot of markets or activities in the winter, so we look forward to the new winter market in Norwich."
Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Ag Economic Development Specialist Rich Taber said additional vendors will be Davejen Farm, selling grass fed beef, True Nature Farm selling fresh vegetable greens, and Foxtrail Farm selling a variety of baked goods.
"All of these vendors are seasoned veteran marketers and have displayed their wares at several other markets in the Chenango County and Central New York areas," Taber said. "They will be selling their products in the Community Room in the main campus building."
The collaboration between CCE and the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus provides one more way for producers in Chenango County to market their food products to the citizens of Chenango County.
Taber noted this market is the result of a concerted effort on the part of Cornell Cooperative Extension and said they still have room for vendors to sign to sell at the market.
