NORWICH – More than a month ago, at about 8 a.m., on the morning of January 1, 68-year-old James C. Wright was walking along the sidewalk on Cortland Street when a pick-up truck veered off the roadway and struck him.
The truck continued across the sidewalk and also struck a vacant home, damaging the front porch and scattering wooden debris at the scene. The street is a 30-mile-per-hour speed zone in a residential area.
This week, officials said no arrests or tickets have yet been determined and the incident is still under investigation.
Police confirmed the identity of the driver involved in the fatal crash as Wyatt J. Gould, 19, of Plymouth.
Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach said the case is still active and ongoing and the results of the investigation would likely be announced before the end of the month and were pending due to legal and forensic considerations.
