Oxford boys fall to Union Springs in opening round of Class C sectionals

UNION SPRINGS – The Oxford Blackhawks boys’ basketball team earned the 10th seed in the Section IV, Class C tournament after a steady regular season, where they were close to playing in the MAC Championship and lead all local Chenango County boys’ teams in the league, finishing third. Oxford traveled to the number seven Union Springs on Tuesday, where they battled but fell 83-53 to end the 2024-25 season.
Oxford had matched up well with prior opponents, going shot for shot and building intensity, but Union Springs was relentless, refusing to be slowed down or outmatched.
The Blackhawks fought hard and stayed determined, but Union Springs took control, racking up 23 or more points in both the first and third quarters to assert their strengthThe Wolves also held a typically high-powered Oxford offense in check, disrupting their rhythm throughout the game
Nic Dodzweit led Oxford with 18 points and earned the start. He had eight of the team’s 14 points in the first quarter and remained consistent from there.
Ben Sheridan followed with 14 points with eight points in the second half. Gordon Smith added seven points as Donovan Rickard, the team’s leading scorer throughout the season, scored just four points in the second half. Jared Sheridan also had four points, but in the first half.
