NORWICH — Guernsey Memorial Library, located at 3 Court Street in Norwich, will begin their April Storytime session on Tuesday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. with the theme "Rain."

Storytime is held throughout the year by Children's Librarian Kim Hazen on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in the Children's Area of the library. Parents and kids are welcome to attend and enjoy a reading of a story book, as well as sing alongs and crafts.

"She does most of our stories and she will often sing some songs with the kids, and she’ll do a craft with the kids, too. So it isn’t just sitting and listening to stories the whole time," explained Guernsey Memorial Library Director Connie Dalrymple.

"We do these throughout the year. We’ll do a series for a couple of months, and then we take a couple of weeks off, and then we start a new series," she added.

Each week, the half-hour Storytime sessions follow a different theme. The first week's theme will be rain on April 8 and 10, followed by birds on April 15 and 17; bunnies on April 22 and 24; insects on April 29 and May 1; mothers on May 6 and 8; flowers on May 13 and 15; gardening on May 20 and 22; fruits and vegetables on May 29, with no Storytime scheduled for May 27; sunshine on June 3 and 5; zoos on June 10 and 12; and the beach on June 17, with no Storytime schedule for June 19.

Storytime is free to attend and doesn't require any prior registration. Dalrymple said parents and children are welcome to show up to whatever sessions they'd like.

The Guernsey Memorial Library offers many other programs for children and teens. Children can enjoy a kids' origami bunny craft in the Children's Area at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, or participate in LEGO Club at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 14 in the Children's Area.

Local teens can make use of Guernsey's Teen Mezzanine, which was unveiled in the summer of 2023. The space features large tables for studying, gaming consoles, and comfortable seating in the library's former non-fiction stacks.
