Norwich baseball falls to Waverly

NORWICH – After debuting its turf field on Monday night, the Norwich Purple Tornado baseball team continued its home stand, taking on the Waverly Wolverines. Waverly started off strong with a big first inning to set them up for the overall 19-3 victory.

Waverly took a 5-0 lead after the first before Norwich answered back with one run in the bottom of the second inning. Hunter Coombs hit an infield single to third base, took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a passed ball, and came into score on Aiden Whaley’s infield single.

The Wolverines plated five more runs in the top of the third and two more in the fourth until Norwich answered with a run in the fourth. Jaxson Francis reached base on an error to start the inning and had Zack Parker pinch run for him, where Parker stole second and advanced to third on a groundout by Graham Burton. Parker came in to score on Noah Eddy’s two-out double to left field.
