AFTON – On a beautiful spring-like afternoon, the Afton Crimson Knights softball team hosted neighboring Bainbridge-Guilford. Afton came into this highly anticipated matchup with a strong 3-0 start to the season, but fell to the Lady Bobcats 15-6. The Crimson Knights fought back in the final two innings to get on the board with B-G pitchers dealing a strong game.

The Bobcats struck first as Breanna Casey hit an infield single, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on Jayslin Henderson’s two-out double.

The score remained 1-0 in efforts of a tremendous defense on both sides with both teams getting lucky on catching runners stealing and terrific line out catches. There were also a few put outs to third, where B-G’s Danica Park kept her foot on the bag at first to get the outs. B-G even turned a double play with Casey stepping on the bag at third for one and a throw to first for the second out.

The Bobcats even picked off Afton in a pickle, attempting to steal home.

B-G extended its lead in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before Afton got on the board with two runs in the fifth. The Bobcats answered back with two in the sixth before the Crimson Knights scored another run in the sixth and three final runs in their last at-bats in the seventh, hoping to make a complete comeback that fell short.
