Greene baseball storms back in final innings to top Harpursville/Afton

AFTON – Coming off earning their first win of the season against Delhi, the Greene Trojans baseball team traveled to Afton to take on the Harpursville/Afton Crimson Hornets. Down 4-2, Greene scored three runs in the sixth inning and held the Crimson Hornets to secure the 5-4 victory.

After two scoreless innings, Greene got on the board first. Jackson Roth walked to lead-off the third inning and advanced to third on an error, putting two runners in scoring position. Parker Flanagan hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Roth while Cooper Flanagan, who reached on an error, advanced to third on a wild pitch and stole home to bring in the second run.

Harpursville/Afton answered back to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third. Davin Warren led-off the inning with an infield single and advanced to third on an error. Warren came in to score on Ryan Wright’s RBI single. Cooper Warren drove in a run on a sac-fly to tie the game with two outs before Matt Carman drove in the go-ahead run on a single to left.

The Crimson Hornets added another insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 4-2. With one out, Wright drilled a double to left before a pitching change. Greene’s Parker Flanagan replaced Lincoln Youngs. Cooper Warren singled to left to bring home Wright before Flanagan limited the damage with two fly outs.
