4-H youth learned to handle livestock at workshop "Beyond the Barn"

OXFORD — Recently, a local 4-H teen leader opened the gates of her family farm in Oxford and offered an educational workshop on preparing beef cattle for the show ring.


Experienced 4-H beef project member Emily H. presented the workshop, "Beyond the Barn" with interactive experiences, allowing participants a close-up into the steps of the daily routine from halter breaking and leading, to socializing and building trust with animals.


“There's so much that happens before you even get to the show ring,” Emily said. “It's about building a bond with your animals and making sure they're comfortable, healthy, and ready.”


She said participants had the opportunity to ask questions, watch demonstrations, and try handling cattle themselves under her guidance.
