Oxford softball picks up fifth straight win, defeats Sidney
SIDNEY – The Oxford Blackhawks softball team is on a roll, winning five-straight games, including Wednesday’s 14-9 road victory against Sidney. Oxford scored 14 runs on 11 hits and a big nine-run fifth inning helped them secure the win with the Sabers attempting a late comeback.
Both teams got on the board early to start with two runs. Oxford went ahead 4-2 in the second before adding one more in the third. Both teams had a scoreless fourth inning before the Blackhawks struck big in the fifth.
The nine-run fifth inning was sparked by Jenna Denz leading off with a walk, Raya Warner’s hit by pitch and a single by Emmalee Reiss to load the bases with no outs. Trinity Jones reached base on an error, which drove in two runs on the play and left runners on the corners. Jones stole second to put herself in better scoring position.
After two outs, Abby Stone reached on a hit by pitch to reload the bases. Reiss scored on an error as Reagan Long reached on an error and another run scored. Peyton Cummings walked to continue the inning and Denz, up for the second time, walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run. Long scored on a passed ball as Warner drove in two runs on a single to center.
