Greene softball falls short to Harpursville in opening round of sectionals

HARPURSVILLE – After a strong regular season and making it to the MAC Championship, the Greene Trojans softball team received the ninth-seed in the Section IV, Class C tournament with a 8-6 record. The Trojans traveled to face the number eight-seed Harpursville, who had pulled off the win the last time the two teams met. The Hornets came away with a 5-2 victory to advance to play the MAC champions, Deposit-Hancock in the next round.

Harpursville got on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run double and after a scoreless second inning, Greene tied the game.

Lexi Cloyd led-off the top of the third inning with a bunt single to second, advanced to second and stole third. She scored on a sac-fly by Abby Yahner. Kenzie Button reached on a hit by pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on a single by Cali Knapp. Button tied the game at two after scoring on a passed ball.
