Oxford PONY falls short to Schenevus

OXFORD – After a close summer opener victory against Cooperstown, the Oxford Blackhawks PONY League team hosted Schenevus on Monday, where they fell short 9-8. The game was tied at 6 after the sixth inning with both teams having a good chance in their final at-bats in the seventh, but the Dragons had a big two-out, two-run single that helped seal the victory.

Schenevus took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning before Oxford fought back with three runs. Joey Locke led off the bottom of the first with an infield single before an error would move him to second and put Degan Endress at first. Conner Dunagan drove in both teammates with a double to left field and scored on Uri Tracy’s RBI double to right field.

The game would remain 5-3 Schenevus until the fifth inning. The Dragons added on to their lead with one run in the top half of the inning while Oxford added two more runs to cut the deficit to one. Oxford tied the game at six in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Korbin Sampson.
