Norwich Pony falls to Unatego

OTEGO - After exciting wins against Edmeston and Sherburne, the Norwich PONY League team traveled to take on Unatego in a Saturday Matinee matchup.

Norwich suffered its first loss of the summer season in a 4-1 deficit.

Unatego got on the board in the bottom of the second after a scoreless first inning for both teams. A lead-off walk and good base running brought in the run on a groundout RBI.

Norwich tied it up in the top of the third as James Sprague reached on a dropped third strike and scored on Joey Parker's two-out triple.

The game remained tied at 1 until Unatego went ahead for good with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning.

A sacrifice-fly, a passed ball, and a wild pitch brought in the winning runs.

Joey Parker's triple was the only hit for Norwich as Brooks Boland and Brayden Lawrence both reached on walks and Luke Waters reached on a hit by pitch.

Norwich's Blayne Sutton and Bo Brown split time on the mound. Sutton got the start, going five and a third, allowing four runs on three hits, seven walks, and had two strikeouts.

Brown got the final two outs in the sixth inning with two strikeouts looking.

Norwich (2-1) 's game against Unatego this evening has been postponed. Norwich's next game is expected to be on Thursday at home against Edmeston at 6 p.m.
