OXFORD – On Wednesday evening, the Oxford Blackhawks PONY league team played its first game since Monday, June 16 after rain and extreme heat in the forecast. The Blackhawks hosted Cooperstown, where Oxford led 2-0 until Cooperstown went ahead in the fourth and added on in the fifth to win 13-3.
After a scoreless first, Oxford got on the board with two runs as Noah Bush doubled with two outs to bring in Eddie Ingraham, who led-off the inning with an infield single. Bush stole third and scored on Joey Locke’s RBI single to make it 2-0.
Both teams were quiet in the third before Cooperstown answered back with a six-run top of the fourth inning and added on with five runs in the fifth. Cooperstown scored two more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 11-run lead.
Oxford had runners in scoring position with back-to-back walks with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Adam Beckwith had a groundout but a balk before the play brought in a run. Oxford had the bases loaded with two outs but went down swinging to end the game. One more run would have sent the teams into the seventh inning.
