Norwich PONY comes away with big win over Edmeston

NORWICH – Despite a wet evening, the Norwich PONY League team hosted Edmeston on the turf, where the Purple Tornado took control in the second inning and added on to win 15-2 in five.
Norwich got on the board in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Bo Brown drew a lead-off walk and stole second and third before coming in to score on a wild pitch. Blayne Sutton singled with two outs and scored on a RBI double by Pierce Sherman.
Edmeston got one back in the top of the second on a passed ball. However, Norwich answered back in a big way with an eight-run inning. Two hit by pitches and a walk loaded the bases with no outs. Bo Brown drove in two runs on a single to left field before Norwich continued to stay hot on stolen bases, leading to Gavin Burrell scoring on a wild pitch. Brown came in to score on a passed ball with more walks to follow, where Pierce Sherman scored on a wild pitch. Luke Waters scored on a passed ball before the final out.
Edmeston scored on a passed ball to make it 10-2 before Norwich added on in the bottom of the fourth inning. Two walks on one out led to a run coming in on a passed ball before more walks and a run on a wild pitch. Bo Brown drove in Gavin Burrell on an infield single before another walk and an RBI single by Joey Parker to close out the scoring.
Gavin Burrell closed out the game on the mound, sending Edmeston down 1, 2, 3 with a great line out catch by Pierce Sherman at third to end the game.
Norwich scored 15 runs on five hits with two hits from lead-off batter Bo Brown as well as three RBIs. Blayne Sutton drove in two runs while Parker, Sherman, and Waters all drove in one run each in the win.
Norwich also walked 14 times with James Sprague drawing three walks on the night. The Purple Tornado also stole nine bases with Brown stealing a team-high three bags.
Brayden Lawrence and Gavin Burrell split time on the mound with Lawrence going three strong innings, only allowing two unearned runs on two hits, four walks, and had one strikeout. Burrell finished the two clean and scoreless innings of relief, where he struck out three batters.
Norwich (3-1) hosts Sherburne on Monday at 6 p.m.
