Chenango County Health rolls out second annual "Explore Chenango Outdoor Challenge”

CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County Public Health Department is spotlighting the county’s best outdoor draws through a new program that encourages folks to “explore Chenango.”


The second annual “Explore Chenango Outdoor Challenge” officially got underway last month, enticing nature lovers to hike, bike, and paddle their way across more than 150 miles or trails and rivers in Chenango County.


Organizers say the program’s a great way to keep healthy while enjoying the outdoor resources that Chenango has to offer.

“The ultimate goal is to increase physical activity which can help prevent some chronic diseases – diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease,” said Heather Miller, director of patient services at the Chenango County Public Health Department. “But also it can help with mental health. It can make you feel better. It adds that social aspect. You can do this challenge individually, but you can also do it with a partner or group setting. It has multiple benefits.”
