CHENANGO COUNTY — Recently, the Chenango County 4-H youth showcased their talent and livestock handling skills at the Fenimore Farm Jr. Livestock Show.
The event supports youth in agriculture and tests the skills of young handlers ages eight to 18.
They present dairy cows, swine, dairy goats, meat goats, beef, and sheep of various breeds that they have cared for throughout the year.
“The 4-H youth get to experience a nine county regional showing, which is a lot of times, larger than our County Fair,” said 4-H Animal Science and Agriculture Educator Victoria Ryan.
Ryan said the CCE 4-H youth leaders are proud of their achievements that reflect the values and life skills provided by the 4-H program.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our Chenango County exhibitors,” Ryan said.
Congratulations to all participants for a successful and rewarding show.”
According to the website at fenimorefarm.org., the Fenimore Farm and Cooperative Extensions's 4-H program first collaborated in 1947 to create the Livestock show.
It has continued through the years, supporting youth with their animal science projects and consists of nine counties with about 200 handlers and 500 animals.
On-site services are provided by the Leather-stocking Corporation.
The Show is sponsored in part by Chobani and Stewart's Shops.
The Cornell Cooperative Extension Chenango County 4-H program provides empowerment to young people by offering hands-on agriculture experiences.
