NORWICH – After having a four stroke lead after the first round of the 67th Canasawacta Country Club Member-Guest tournament, Brevin Bennett and Justin Bennett came out on top as Master’s Flight winners. They defeated Nate Scheer and Joe Rull in sudden-death with two playoff holes.
Bennett/Bennett led by three strokes, going into the final round before pairing up with Scheer/Rull as the last group of Saturday afternoon. Scheer/Rull was up by one with three holes left, but then Bennett/Bennett tied it up, where the two teams were tied after 18 and on the playoff hole on 18, which sent the teams to finish on the first hole. All it took was a birdie from Brevin Bennett to win it.
Scheer/Rull finished second and Brenon and Bryant Maynard finished third with a 207, ahead of David Carson and Tim Clark with a 208.
Brevin Bennett was feeling “pretty good” about winning the member-guest tournament with his uncle Justin, where he became the youngest player at age 14 to win since Corey Johnson at age 18.
He just had to putt it in to win on the second playoff hole and he birdied. He said his uncle Justin told him just “knock it in the right left” and sure enough it paid off.
“It was the most exciting finishes, where our youngest player ended up being our strongest,” Owner and Course Superintendent Tim Carson said. “He [Brevin] is here every day and loves it here and I love watching him. This tournament is not age limited, so if they can, let the youth play.”
