NORWICH — A new store will be opening in downtown Norwich on Saturday, August 9.
South Broad Mercantile, located at 24 South Broad Street, is a "modern twist on the classic general store ... where yesterday’s charm meets today’s finds."
Owner Bo Currie said the store will carry merchandise such as home goods, artisan-made gifts and candles, small-batch pantry items, accessories, barware, antique pieces from the collection of John Antonowicz, greeting cards, stationery, and much more.
He has also tied in elements of historical charm into the store, with features like a penny candy counter and original sugar formulas of popular sodas like Crush and Nehi.
South Broad Mercantile will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. They will be closed on Tuesdays.
Currie said his focus with the store was to provide local goods, and also help customers find what they're looking for.
"Everything that we have is either local, or it’s small batch," he said. "We want to be like your small town shop, and if there’s something that you’re looking for, tell us about it, because we want it to be community driven so that if there’s something that you're interested in seeing sold in the store, let us know, because I will look for it."
