Afton Girls pick up big win over Worcester at home

AFTON —The Afton Crimson Knights girls' basketball team hosted Worcester in the 2025-26 home opener on Thursday night, which was also the opening round of the Afton tournament. After the Crimson Knights took second in the Schoharie tournament, they shined in the first round of their own tournament with a big 50-15 victory.

Afton was off to a hot start, scoring 25 points in the opening eight minutes of play, led by Rylee Rupakus with 11 points, McKenna Ross and Megan Racine with six points, and Ariana Florance with two points within the first quarter.

With a big lead, the Crimson Knights settled in and played great defense throughout the rest of the contest, holding Worcester to single digit scoring in all four quarters.

Rupakus led Afton with 16 points, including two three-pointers. Racine recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ross added eight points while Jordan Phillips had five and Appalonia Bushaw with four points.

Abbey Paoletti banked a three in the third quarter as Florance and Sam Sperry both contributed with two points in the win.

Afton (2-1) awaits the winner of Rockland/Sharon Springs.
