Mustin and Beckwith win the 62nd annual Clyde Cole Wrestling Tournament

OXFORD— The 62nd annual Clyde Cole Wrestling Tournament was held over the weekend at Oxford High School, where two local wrestlers; Oxford-Greene’s Kade Mustin and Norwich’s Maverick Beckwith were crowned Clyde Cole Champions. Norwich’s Jadyn Carpenter was runner-up in the 132 weight class with the loss to Mustin in the finals by tech fall.

Prior to the finals, the Oxford Rotary Club, who have sponsored the Clyde Cole tournament for more than 60 years with its motto, “Service above self,” dedicated the tournament to Sandy Dain, a long-time contributor to the tournament and to the community. Dain has also been President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Oxford Rotary as well as a member of the Oxford Tree Board, Rotary District Youth Exchanger, Rotary Internation Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Common Cents Thrift Shop, and a member of the United Church of Oxford. Congratulations, Sandy.

Following the finals and the podium finishers, Shenendendehowa was awarded the first place trophy for the second consecutive year, scoring a total of 300.5 points as Carthage took second with 211.5 points.

Oxford-Greene took fifth with 114.5 points with Norwich in sixth (95.5), Sherburne-Earlville in eighth (89), and Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville in 16th of 18th with 35 points.

Aside from Beckwith and Carpenter, Norwich’s Bryce Wellington finished fourth and Noah Eddy took fifth in their respective weight classes.

Oxford-Greene had four place finishers, other than Mustin, with Troy Braman and Donte Wrench both finishing third, Urijah Dibble in fourth, and Collin Morlando in sixth.
