Oxford boys defeat Harpursville/Afton for MAC road win
AFTON —On Monday night, the Oxford Blackhawks boys' basketball team officially began MAC league play on the road against Harpursville/Afton at Afton. The regular scheduled game comes after the Blackhawks started the 2025-26 season in three straight tournaments.
Oxford picked up its fifth win of the season with a 64-43 victory.
Down 16-12 after the first quarter, the Blackhawks amped up play and outscored Harpursville/Afton 23-8 in the second quarter and then again 17-8 after the break to take and maintain a comfortable lead.
Harpursville/Afton's Jayden Deleon did lead all scorers with 25 points in the losing effort.
Oxford's Gordon Smith led the team with 21 points, including nine points in the second quarter.
Kayden Renfrow also helped efforts in the second quarter with scoring 10 of his total 16 points before halftime.
Nic Dodzweit finished with 13 points as Bennett Paden was consistent throughout the contest and added eight points.
Degan Endress had four points while Richard Hunter had two in the win.
Oxford (5-2) faces Deposit-Hancock in Hancock on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
