Severe weather causes widespread emergency response and power outages throughout Chenango County
CHENANGO COUNTY - A storm brought heavy rain and strong winds that impacted a number of communities in the area Friday morning.
Large portions of Norwich and other areas were left without power. Fire departments, ambulance services, NYSEG and other first responders received multiple calls within a short period of time at around 8:35 a.m.
One call included downed power lines at the KFC parking lot, knocking power out in the area from Hale Street in the City of Norwich to the Walmart intersection.
Other reported incidents included a possible electrical fire in Sherburne and downed power lines blocking the roadways in several areas, such as on Sheff Road in South New Berlin and at a location in Greene. Several other departments responded to reported traffic accidents.
The Norwich Fire Department installed emergency generators to power the traffic lights along Main Street in the City of Norwich.
No other information was available and no injuries were reported as of press time Friday morning.
