B-G girls pull away in the final eight minutes to defeat Oxford

BAINBRIDGE— Both the Bainbridge-Guilford and Oxford girls’ basketball teams came into Friday night’s matchup with win streaks, which indicated a competitive league contest. Oxford had a chance after taking a five-point lead halfway through the third quarter, but B-G got right back into it to tie. B-G pulled away in the final eight minutes, going on a 15-6 run to stay perfect and defeat Oxford 43-29.
Jalyn Winans led B-G with 10 points, all in the second half. Marissa Mayo finished with nine points and 10 rebounds. Mayo went three-for-four at the free-throw line.
Jayslin Henderson also had nine points with six in the first quarter and was three-for-three at the free-throw line.
Peyton Umbra added six points in the second half and had nine rounds. She went four-for-four at the free-throw line.
Emma Kinter had four points, all in the third quarter while Tori Suda had three points in the first quarter and Kamry Patten with two points.
Oxford’s Raine Rovente led the team with nine points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Jordan Palmer had six points and seven rebounds.
Paige Rickard and Emmalee Reiss both added three points while Olivia Oliver and Margaret Rovente finished with two points each. Rovente also had nine rebounds.
B-G (10-0) hosts Richfield Springs on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as Oxford (5-4) hosts UV on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
