NORWICH ― Chenango County 4-H Youth Development invites 4-H youth to join the Rabbit Care and Showmanship Clinic, from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, January 24, in the Cornell Cooperative Exchange building, located at 99 North Broad Street in Norwich.

Experience is not required and all levels of interest are welcome to join to learn, connect, sharpen skills and prepare for the show ring.

Registration is required by January 17, and is open to 4-H youth, ages five to 18.

“Learning to show animals teaches youth responsibility, confidence, and communication skills,” said Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Educator Micaela Meseck.

“It also promotes proper animal care and welfare, which is essential for ethical livestock practices,” Meseck added.

She said the clinic is a great way to learn from experienced instructors and practice techniques before entering the show ring.

“Youth should bring any and all questions they have about rabbit care and showmanship and a notebook, if they like,” said Meseck.

She noted they will have rabbits to work with at the clinic.

“If they own a rabbit, they are welcome to bring it for hands-on practice,” she said. “Just make sure to also bring a cage and water bottle or dish for them.”

Meseck said they have 10 youth signed up at this time and anticipate more to register as they get closer to the event date.
