Chenango County Transit provides clear policies to ensure effective and safe rider experiences

CHENANGO COUNTY — Recently, Chenango County Public Transportation disclosed a standard of conduct to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of transit staff, passengers, and the general public.


Chenango County Clerk of the Board Sheri Howe noted at this time, there have been no incidents on the buses and the focus was preventative safety.


If an incident was serious in nature and the safety of the driver and other passengers in jeopardy official contact law enforcement. Unruly passengers may be removed and their bus privileges suspended, Howe added.

The guidelines also allow the drivers to deviated from fixed routes within the county when needed, and may drop passengers off at nearby locations within three-quarters of a mile to a fixed route.


Riders can board and exit the bus at designated bus stops or flag down the bus along the predetermined path.

According to the Chenango County website, Chenango County Transit guidelines are as follows:


Passenger behavior:


No eating, drinking, smoking, using tobacco or vaping, consuming alcohol or illegal drugs, unruly, disruptive, or unsafe behavior, gambling, foul language, soliciting, loitering of any kind, destruction or vandalism of property; county or otherwise, throwing items on or from the bus, playing music in a manner that would bother other passengers or the bus operator, blocking pedestrian traffic or the aisle unnecessarily.

Passengers must pay the appropriate fare or show proper pass.
