MORRIS - In May, The Gatehouse Coffee Shop & Mercantile invites the community to celebrate Mother’s Day and the many expressions of motherhood through a month of thoughtful gatherings, workshops, and performances.

The Art of Crêpes: A Hands-On Workshop on Saturday, May 2, 1–3 p.m.
Kick off the month by learning to make delicate French-style crêpes from scratch with Teresa DeLaurentiis. Guests will create both sweet and savory variations using specialty ingredients from the shop—perfect for a heartfelt Mother’s Day treat.  Leave with new skills and simple recipes to recreate a beautiful brunch experience at home.

Sunday Sessions with Khalil Jade on Sunday, May 3, 1–3 p.m.
Enjoy an uplifting afternoon of live music as Khalil Jade blends folk, Americana, blues, and pop into a soulful and engaging performance.  It’s the perfect way to slow down, gather with loved ones, and ease into the rhythm of the season.

Woman Prayer on Thursday, May 7, 4–6 p.m.
A gathering for women of all faiths and spiritual paths, led by Jay Cardinale. Participants are invited to bring a sacred object and join in building a shared altar rooted in reflection, intention, and connection.  This intimate circle offers space for quiet grounding, shared presence, and collective care.

Sacred Writing Circle: Dear Mother on Saturday, May 9, 1–3 p.m.
Facilitated by Gianluca Avanzato, this writing circle offers space to reflect on motherhood in all its forms through guided meditation, storytelling, and open sharing. All are welcome.  No prior writing experience is needed, just a willingness to explore and express.

Spring Plant Walk with AC Hill on Thursday, May 14, 4–6 p.m.
Explore the natural landscape with herbalist AC Hill and learn to identify edible and medicinal spring plants. Sliding scale $10–$20; no one turned away for lack of funds.  Guests will gain practical knowledge they can bring into their own kitchens, gardens, and daily rituals.

Lyrical Sounds: Poetry & Contrabass on Friday, May 22, 4–6 p.m.
Close out the month with a unique live performance blending spoken word and music. Featuring poets from Bright Hill Press and bassist Evan Jagels, this immersive event celebrates the interplay of language and sound.  Each performance unfolds in the moment, offering a one-of-a-kind artistic experience.

Denim & Doodles on Saturday, May 30, 1–3 p.m.
Turn your jeans into wearable art in this playful, hands-on workshop led by Tracie Martinetti. Guests will paint, doodle, and embellish their own denim using provided materials and guidance—just bring a pair of jeans (lighter colors work best).  Come for the creativity, stay for the laughter, and leave with a completely one-of-a-kind piece you’ll actually wear.
