NHS baseball avoids sweep with close win over Windsor

WINDSOR— The Norwich Purple Tornado baseball team completed the three-game series at Windsor on Friday, where the Purple Tornado avoided the sweep with a 10-8 victory.
Norwich got on the board in the top of the first inning with three runs coming in on a passed ball and error.
Norwich added two more in the top of the second as Michael Brunick led the inning off with a single to left field, stole second, and scored on Joey Parker's RBI double.
Parker scored on Zack Parker's Sac-fly RBI to make it 5-1.
Windsor got three in the bottom half of the inning to cut Norwich's lead to one run.
The Purple Tornado added an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning, but Windsor added three in the bottom of the fifth to take a brief 7-6 lead.
Norwich regained the lead and then some with four runs in the top of the sixth and held Windsor to one run to secure the victory.
Zack Parker led the team with three hits and four RBIs, including two doubles.
Joey Parker had two hits, including a double, and drove in one run.
Collin Reid also drove in a run as Owen Olds, Carmine Pastore, and Michael Brunick all had one hit in the win.
Reid got the start on the mound, going five innings, allowing seven runs (one earned) on seven hits, two walks, and struck out three batters.
Pierce Sherman earned the save in relief, going two innings, allowing one earned run and three walks.
Norwich (3-9) hosts Johnson City for senior night this evening at 5 p.m.
