NORWICH— The Norwich Purple Tornado softball team honored its class of 2026 seniors prior to Thursday’s game against rivals Oneonta. Congratulations to Loralee Brown, Ava Cirigliano, Marina Arraez, Shaelyn Rice, and Brooke Rogers.
Both teams had to finish up a tied 10-10 game in the eighth inning from March 30 before starting a fresh seven-inning game. Norwich won the extra inning game 12-11 in 11 innings.
Both teams broke the 10-10 tie with a run in the 10th inning. Norwich scored on Kerragan Reid’s groundout with Bri Cirigliano as the runner on second, who came in to score on the play. An error brought in Oneonta’s run to tie it at 11 to go into the 11th inning.
With Loralee Brown as the extra runner on second to start the 11th inning, Brooke Rogers singled with two outs to bring Brown in, which would be the game-winner as Norwich held Oneonta to just a single.
Game 2: Oneonta 10 - Norwich 4
In the complete second game, Norwich dropped to the Yellowjackets, despite outhitting them 10-8. After being down 5-0, Norwich got on the board with two in the bottom of the fourth and then added runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Kerragan Reid led the team with three hits and an RBI. Kira Quattrocchi had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs while Brooke Rogers also had two hits and drove in a run. Carolyn Wright had two singles and Marina Arraez had a hit on senior night. Bri Cirigliano went three innings in the start on the mound, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Quattrocchi pitched four innings in relief, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits, three walks, and struck out four batters.
