GMU, NHS, and UV track and field competes at Oneonta

ONEONTA— The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, Norwich, and Unadilla Valley track and field teams competed in the Oneonta Invitational over the weekend.
The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ team tied for ninth with 24 points as UV and GMU tied for 11th with 12 points.
The Norwich boys took third in the meet with 65 points, behind leading Oneonta and Walton/Downsville. UV tied for 12th place with 14 points.

GMU:
Girls’ Track:
Andrea Favinger earned a fourth place finish in the girls’ 400 meter run with a time of 1:06.90. Alex Irons finished 18th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 31.71 seconds.
Girls’ Field:
Lily Haupfleisch and Bailey Howard both threw in the shot put, where Haupfleisch took third with a throw of 26 feet, three and a half inches.
Howard took fifth with a throw of 24 feet.
Haupfleisch earned a top 10 finish in the discus with a throw of 77 feet, eight and a quarter inches.
Boys’ Track:
Logan Panek came in 11th place in the boys’ 110 meter hurdles with a time of 23.11 seconds.
Peyton Nelson finished 16th in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:01.12 with Charlie Butler in 18th with a time of 1:02.68. Nelson also competed in the 200 meter dash, where the eighth grader finished 16th with a time of 27.30 seconds.
Boys’ Field:
Gavin Underwood finished 16th in the boys’ shot put with a throw of 29 feet, five inches and threw for 58 feet, six inches in the discus for 18th place.
