Sheriff: Airlifted E-bike rider in critical condition after being struck by vehicle along Rt. 12
Police said an E-bike operator was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he remained in critical condition.
NORWICH — A 69-year-old Oxford man was flown to a Syracuse hospital Monday after an E-bike crash involving a motor vehicle along State Highway 12 in the Town of Norwich, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff deputies said the crash was reported at about 5:50 p.m. Monday, May 18, in the 5400 block of State Highway 12.
“The preliminary investigation determined that a 69-year-old male from Oxford, NY was operating an E-bike on the southbound shoulder of the roadway when he entered the southbound lane and was struck by a vehicle operated by a 16-year-old male traveling southbound,” reported the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
The E-bike operator was transported by Mercy Flight helicopter to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he remained in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by New York State Police, Norwich Police Department, Norwich Fire Department, New York State Department of Transportation, Oxford Fire Department, Sherburne Fire Department and Mercy Flight.
