Voters across Chenango County approve local school budgets

CHENANGO COUNTY — School district voters across Chenango County approved proposed 2026-27 budgets Tuesday, while also deciding capital and transportation propositions, library funding, and board of education races.

AFTON

Afton Central School District voters approved the district’s school budget resolution, 105-64.

Voters also approved a bus resolution, 107-62.

Erin P. Noone received 126 votes and was elected to a five-year term on the Board of Education. Kelly Graven-Briggs received 117 votes and was elected to a one-year term.

BAINBRIDGE-GUILFORD

Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District voters approved the district’s 2026-27 budget, 157-86.

A proposition to purchase school buses also passed, 167-77.

In the race for two Board of Education seats, John Gliha received 150 votes, Wendy Jennings received 144 votes and Vanessa Fitzgerald received 106 votes.

GREENE

Greene Central School District voters approved a $32,089,286 budget for the 2026-27 school year, 307-175.

A transportation proposition to purchase three gasoline school buses at a maximum estimated cost of $395,100 passed, 350-131.

Voters also approved a proposition authorizing an annual levy of $212,257 for Moore Memorial Library, 374-107. Debra Eggleston and Evelyn Frair were elected to three-year terms on the Board of Education, receiving 348 and 339 votes, respectively. Emily Riggs received 128 votes and Nathan Larsen received 105 votes.

NORWICH

Norwich City School District voters approved a $51,743,168 district budget, 615-294. Voters also approved the establishment of a 2026 capital reserve fund of $5 million, 638-273.

A proposition for the sale of surplus property known as Flanagan Field for $150,000 was defeated, 646-285. The library levy of $1,071,250 passed, 619-285.

Melissa Beers and Dawn Wenzel were listed as Board of Education candidates, and Rachel Ballin was listed as a library trustee.

OXFORD

Oxford Academy and Central School District voters approved the district’s proposed 2026-27 budget, 178-97.

A proposition to purchase two diesel-powered vehicles passed, 191-84, while a zero-emissions electric school bus proposition was defeated, 217-60.

The library budget passed, 210-66. Julie Gates and Brian Sheridan were re-elected to the Board of Education, receiving 151 and 218 votes, respectively.

SHERBURNE-EARLVILLE

Sherburne-Earlville Central School District voters approved a $41,447,632 budget for the 2026-27 school year, 168-70.

A transportation proposition also passed, 159-80.

Harmon Hoff, Christina Baker and Jerri Webb were elected to the Board of Education, receiving 196, 196 and 183 votes.

UNADILLA VALLEY

Unadilla Valley Central School District voters approved a $28.5 million budget for the 2026-27 school year, 126-27.

A proposal to lease three non-electric school buses passed, 132-21.

Voters also approved a districtwide proposition to help fund the New Berlin and South New Berlin public libraries, 143-10. Vicky Gregory, Carrie Meade and Dan Naughton, who ran unopposed, were re-elected to three-year terms on the Board of Education beginning July 1, 2026.
