Oxford-Greene baseball falls short to Sidney; Sabers walk off to advance
SIDNEY—The Oxford-Greene baseball team earned the 10th seed in the Section IV, Class B tournament, where they took on familiar foe Sidney on the road.
Both teams battled to a 7-7 tie at the end of seven innings, sending the game to extras. The Sabers walked it off to advance in the bottom of the eighth inning.
O-G got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs as Cooper Flanagan reached on a hit by pitch with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Flanagan came in to score on Nic Dodzweit's double to right field. Dodzweit came in to score on Kiefer Evans' two-out single.
O-G added on with a run in the top of the third as Flanagan reached on a walk and Joey Locke came in as a pinch-runner for Flanagan, where he stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.
Locke came in to score on Cooper Davis' two-out RBI single.
Sidney took a 4-3 lead after three and added on to make it 7-3 after the fourth inning.
O-G fought back in the sixth and seventh innings to tie up the game as errors brought in runs, Kiefer Evans had another RBI on a fielder's choice, and Cooper Flanagan had an RBI single to tie the game with two outs in the top of the seventh.
O-G could not score in the top of the eighth, even with Cooper Davis in scoring position as he doubled to lead off the inning.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Sidney walked it off on a sac-fly.
Cooper Davis got the start for O-G on the mound, where he went three and a third, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.
Uri Tracy pitched four innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Oxford-Greene finishes the 2026 season, the first as a merged team, with a 6-8 record. Good luck to the seniors.
